Become a volunteer firefighter today! No experience required! Marshall Volunteer Fire Department is always looking for dedicated individuals to join our department. Being a volunteer firefighter is a very rewarding, yet demanding task. Many members describe it as a fun experience and being on a volunteer fire department feels like family. Fire departments our size all over the country, rely on a volunteer type system for staffing, so we are always looking for help! APPLICATION PROCESS
To apply, please print off the attached PDF below, or stop into the Marshall Public Safety Building at 119 Industrial DR for a application. Once you have filled out our application, it asks for two current member signatures, if you do not know two members, bring it into the station and we will find two for you!
After completion, your application will get read to our members at our next monthly meeting, after that meeting, a background check gets ran, and at the following meeting, your application will get read to the members again and they will all vote on you to decide your membership on the Marshall Fire Department.
After acceptance onto the department, you will be assigned a mentor, who will help you throughout your first year, as well as a training officer will get you enrolled in class.

Job Description

- Fire suppression
- Rescuing people
- Sustaining life in life-threatening situations
- Training and the maintenance of fire stations, equipment, and apparatus
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required
- Must be at least 18 years old
- Must have a high school diploma or equivalent
- Must have a valid driver's license
Duties & Responsibilities
- Work as a team member in carrying out a variety of assignments in emergency fire fighting situations.
- Utilize a variety of procedures, techniques and tools for rescue purposes.
- Perform a variety of ventilation procedures in accordance with fire fighting procedures and techniques.
- Use a variety of manual and power tools to forcibly gain entry to structures or vehicles.
- Perform a variety of salvage and overhaul procedures in order to minimize damage to structures affected by fire.
- Provide a variety of public assistance and education services in response to citizen requests.
Working Conditions
- Subject to call for any emergencies as deemed necessary
- Required to function in hazardous environment
Schooling Required within 2 years of being on the Department:
- Entry Level Firefighting Class
- Hazardous Materials Operations
- Firefighter l Certification
- Blood Borne Pathogens Training
- CPR/BLS Training
- FEMA ICS 100, 200 & 700
About Schooling:
- The MVFD will supply you with your own Personal Protective Equipment for class
- Classes are generally held at Madison College or local fire departments
- All training is paid for by the department with the expectation of school completion within two years of becoming a member of the department
Other Requirements will include:
- Working all MVFD Hosted Fundraising Events
